Privacy policy at What’s the Trich
How we handle information shared with this website.
What’s the Trich is a family-led OCD and BFRB awareness project. This privacy policy explains what information the website may receive, why we receive it, and the choices available to visitors.
Effective date: October 16, 2026
Who we are
Our website address is https://whatsthetrich.com/.
We share lived family experience and awareness content. We are not a therapy practice, medical provider, crisis service, or substitute for qualified professional care.
Information you choose to share
You may provide information when you submit a comment or contact message. Depending on the feature, this can include your name, email address, optional website address, and the words you choose to submit.
Please do not include private medical details, emergency information, or information you would not want sent by email.
Comments
When visitors leave comments, WordPress collects the information shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent information to assist with security and spam detection.
- Comments are reviewed before they are published.
- If a comment is approved, the submitted display name and comment may become public. Email addresses are not displayed publicly.
- An anonymized value created from an email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine whether the commenter has a profile image. If a comment is approved, that profile image may appear with the comment.
- Akismet is used to help identify spam. Comment data may be processed by Akismet for that purpose. Learn more in the Akismet Privacy Notice.
Contact messages
When you use our contact form, we use the information you submit to read and respond to your message, evaluate an appropriate collaboration or contribution, review a suggested resource, or correct something on the site.
Submitting a message does not create a clinical, therapeutic, professional, or confidential-care relationship.
Automatic technical information
Our hosting, security, and spam-prevention services may receive technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, requested pages, timestamps, and security events. This information is used to deliver, protect, and maintain the website.
We do not sell or rent visitor personal information, and we do not use this website to serve behaviorally targeted advertising.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience. These cookies prevent you from having to re-enter those details when leaving another comment.
WordPress and service providers may also use cookies that are necessary for site security, administration, or basic functionality.
WPConsent stores your cookie choice in your browser for 30 days. Optional Statistics cookies are off until you agree. Choosing Reject analytics does not prevent you from reading the website or using its contact features.
Analytics cookies have the lifetimes listed below, which your browser may shorten. Their lifetime is separate from how long Analytics retains user-level and event-level data.
Optional website analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful and how visitors find What’s the Trich. It runs only after you accept Statistics cookies. You can decline without limiting access to the website.
After you agree, Google may receive pages viewed, referral sources, timestamps, device and browser information, approximate location, and cookie-based browser identifiers. Your browser’s connection to Google also includes your IP address.
We do not configure Analytics to collect names, email addresses, comments, contact messages, or internal-search text. Email redaction and redaction of common search and contact URL parameters provide additional, best-effort safeguards. Google Signals, advertising personalization, user-provided data collection, and automatic form and search measurement are not enabled.
Google processes the analytics information. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services for more about its practices and your choices.
Cookie details
The list below documents the consent cookie and optional Analytics cookies configured for this website. Comment, login, security, or other functional cookies may also be used when you interact with those features, as described above.
External websites and social media
The site links to organizations and platforms including Instagram, TikTok, IOCDF, and other independent resources. When you follow an external link, that organization’s privacy practices apply. What’s the Trich does not control those independent websites.
How information may be shared
We share information only when reasonably necessary to operate the site, respond to a request, protect the website, provide analytics you have agreed to, or comply with applicable legal obligations. Service providers may include our web host, WordPress-related software providers, Google Analytics, spam and security services, form and email-delivery services, and technical support providers.
We do not publish a contact message unless we first receive permission. Approved public comments are an exception because publication is the purpose of the comment feature.
Retention
Approved comments and related metadata may be retained so the conversation remains available. Spam may be deleted automatically. Contact messages are kept only as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain appropriate records, protect the site, or meet legal obligations.
Google Analytics user-level and event-level retention is set to two months, without resetting that period when you return. Aggregated reports may remain available longer. Browser-cookie expiration is a separate setting, shown in the cookie details above.
Your choices
Use the floating cookie-settings button to reopen your choices. You can reject optional analytics or turn Statistics off and save your choices. Withdrawing consent stops future collection; it does not automatically erase data already received. Clearing your browser cookies also removes the saved consent choice.
You may ask us to review, correct, or delete personal information you submitted through this website, subject to information we may need to retain for security, recordkeeping, or legal reasons.
A parent or guardian may contact us if they believe a child under 13 submitted personal information. We will review the request and remove the information when appropriate.
Security and privacy policy updates
We use reasonable measures intended to protect information, but no website, email system, or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
We may update this privacy policy when website features or service providers change. The effective date at the top will be revised when a material update is published. Before adding a newsletter or merchandise purchasing, we will update this notice to describe the additional information practices.
